QR Menu Design Made for Your Restaurant, Café or Hotel
We design your QR menu specifically for your venue: with your logo, colours and dishes, it reads comfortably on a guest's phone; we produce the table QR codes and update the menu for you whenever a price or a dish changes.
Sample design
This is how your QR menu could look
The menu below is an illustrative sample. We design every menu specifically for the venue, with its logo, colours and dishes, and prepare the table card in the same style.
- Your logo, colours and typeface
- Categories and featured dishes
- Turkish and foreign-language options
- Allergen and ingredient markers
- Print-ready table card and QR code
Scan it with your phone camera; this page opens on your phone.
Short answer
A QR menu is a digital menu that guests open on their screen by scanning the table code with their phone camera. UNIT İstanbul, through its Unit Software brand, designs QR menus made specifically for each restaurant, café or hotel, produces the table QR codes, and updates the menu for the business when prices or dishes change.
What is a QR menu, and how does it work?
With a QR menu, there is a small QR code on every table, on the counter or in the room. When a guest scans the code with their phone camera, the menu opens straight in the browser, with no app to download. The menu shows the categories, dish names, short descriptions, prices and, if you wish, photos.
The QR code always points to the same address. When something on the menu changes, there is no need to reprint the codes on the tables; when a guest scans the code, they see the current version of the menu.
Guests do not need to install anything or sign up; the camera on any recent phone recognises a QR code directly. This simplicity means older guests and tourists can also open the menu without any difficulty. Adding a short prompt next to the code makes first-time use even easier.
What does a QR menu bring to a business?
- Quick price updates: when a price or a dish changes, there is no need to redo the printed menus.
- Less printing: worn and stained printed menus are replaced by a small code that stays on the table.
- More information: allergens, ingredients, vegan or gluten-free options and dish photos can be added easily.
- Multiple languages: businesses that welcome tourists can offer the menu in more than one language.
- Consistency: the menu information can be kept the same on your Google Business Profile, social media and delivery platforms.
A QR menu does not have to replace the printed menu entirely. Many businesses use both together: the QR menu for up-to-date prices and details, and the printed menu for guests who prefer one.
A PDF menu or a menu page built for phones?
The most common mistake is linking the QR code to a scanned image or a PDF of the printed menu. These files force guests to zoom and scroll on their phone, open slowly, and can only be read to a limited extent by search engines and AI assistants.
Our recommendation is to design the menu for the phone screen and to include dish names, descriptions and prices as text. That way the menu opens quickly, reads easily and also supports your business in search. We choose the format for your menu together, based on what your business needs.
What should a good QR menu include?
- A category order that lets guests find what they want straight away, and a concise list of dishes
- A legible font size and colour contrast that reads comfortably even in a dimly lit venue
- A short description, portion information and a price for every dish
- Allergen and ingredient information, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options clearly marked
- A language selector, if needed
- The business's address, opening hours, phone number and social media links
- Fast loading, without heavy images or unnecessary animations
How does menu design affect what guests order?
A menu is not just a price list; it is where guests decide what to order. The order of the categories, the position of featured dishes and the wording of the descriptions all shape that decision directly. On a phone, guests usually focus on the dishes they see on the first screen, so we recommend placing your signature dishes and most profitable plates at the top of each category.
Short, appetising descriptions explain why a dish is worth choosing. Showing items that go well together side by side on the menu, such as a drink suggested alongside a dessert, also supports the average order. When preparing the menu, we listen to your sales priorities and set the category and dish order accordingly. Details that never fit on a printed menu because of space limits find plenty of room on a QR menu.
What should the QR code on the table look like?
For a QR code to do its job, it has to be easy to scan. We make sure the code is large enough, has strong contrast against its background and sits on a non-glossy surface. Adding a short prompt next to the code, such as asking guests to scan it to see the menu, helps those using it for the first time.
We prepare print-ready files for table cards, stickers or counter stands in line with your business's design style. Before handover, we test the codes with different phones and under different lighting conditions.
What are the common mistakes when having a QR menu made?
- Printing the code too small or on a glossy surface: codes that reflect light or are very small are hard to scan with a phone.
- Uploading the menu as a PDF: guests have to zoom and scroll, and the file opens slowly.
- Not keeping prices up to date: a difference between the price on the menu and the price on the bill damages trust.
- Putting everything in one list: in a long list without categories, guests cannot find what they are looking for.
- Leaving out allergen information: guests have to ask the waiter, which slows down service.
- Placing the code in only one spot: there should also be a code on the terrace, at the bar and at takeaway points.
Most of these mistakes are easy to prevent at the design stage. When preparing the menu, we go through every dish, every category and every spot where the code will sit together with you.
What happens when prices or dishes change?
Simply send us the changes to prices, dishes or categories, and we update the menu for you. Because the QR code points to the same address, the codes on the tables stay the same. The same approach applies to seasonal or daily menus, promotions and new dishes.
Keeping the prices on the menu consistent with those at the till and on delivery platforms matters for guest trust. When we make an update, we give you a short checklist so the same information appears across these channels too.
How are QR menus used in hotels?
In hotels, the same setup does far more than show a restaurant menu. The room service menu, breakfast and restaurant hours, spa and pool information, transfer and tour options and the hotel rules can all reach the guest in their room through a single QR code. When the information changes, there is no need to reprint the cards in the rooms.
For hotels that welcome guests from different countries, we prepare the menu and the information pages in the languages that suit the guest profile. We explain our approach to hotel marketing on our hotels and hospitality page.
Does a QR menu help visibility on Google and in AI answers?
Guests look at the menu and the prices before choosing a venue, which is why the menu link on your Google Business Profile matters. A menu that can be read as text supports your business in searches for specific dishes and in the venue recommendations made by AI assistants.
We explain our approach to restaurants and cafés, where we handle search, maps and social media together, on our restaurants and cafés page, and map visibility on our local SEO page. If your business needs a full website alongside the menu, see our website development page.
Where should you start with a QR menu? Our recommendation
- Gather your current menu: bring the dish names, prices and categories together in a single list.
- Add the extra details: confirm allergen, ingredient and special option information with the kitchen.
- Choose the photos: select real photos of the dishes you want to feature.
- Choose the languages: decide which languages your guests speak.
- Plan where the code goes: decide whether it will sit on a table card, a sticker or a stand.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Who updates the menu when prices change?
- Simply send us the changes and we update the menu for you. The QR codes on the tables stay the same, and when a guest scans the code, they see the current version of the menu. The same approach applies to seasonal menus and promotions.
- Do the QR codes on the tables need to be reprinted?
- No. The QR code is linked to the menu's address; even if the content of the menu changes, the code stays the same. You only need to print a new one when a card or sticker wears out, and we hand over the print-ready files to you.
- Can a QR menu be in more than one language?
- Yes. For businesses that welcome tourists, we can prepare the menu in more than one language. We decide together which languages are needed based on your guest profile, and we write the dish names and descriptions so they are clear in every language.
- Isn't linking a PDF menu to a QR code enough?
- It works, but it is a hassle for guests: they have to zoom and scroll on their phone, and the file can open slowly. Search engines and AI assistants also read image or PDF menus only to a limited extent. Our recommendation is to design the menu for phones and include it as text.
- Can dish photos be added to the menu?
- Yes. We add photos of the dishes you want to feature. To keep the menu loading quickly, we compress the images and keep their number reasonable. We recommend using real photos of your dishes, as they set guests' expectations accurately.
- Is a QR menu only for restaurants?
- No. Cafés, bars, patisseries, hotel restaurants, room service, beach venues and any business that offers a price list can use a QR menu. In hotels, the same setup also works for in-room information cards and service lists.
- How long does it take you to prepare a QR menu?
- Depending on the size of the menu, we deliver in one to seven days. A short café menu sits at the start of that range and a multilingual hotel menu with many categories at the end. When dish names, prices and images arrive complete, it goes faster; we confirm the exact delivery day in writing once we have seen your menu.
- Does a QR menu open without an internet connection on the guest's phone?
- The phone needs to be connected to the internet for the menu to open. That is why we recommend showing your guest Wi-Fi details next to the code. By keeping the menu lightweight, we make sure it opens quickly even on a weak connection.
- Can we also use the QR menu on Instagram and our Google Business Profile?
- Yes. You can add the menu's address to your Instagram profile, the menu field of your Google Business Profile and your delivery announcements. That way guests see the menu and the prices before they even arrive, and when the menu changes, all of these links show the current version.
- Do you also build a website and Google Business Profile alongside the QR menu?
- Yes. We can link the menu to your business's website and Google Business Profile, and optimise your profile for visibility in local searches. If you need a full website, the same team can also handle website development.
