What we do on Reddit

Reddit is where people consult real users before they buy. We bring your brand into the conversation under its own name, build ads in the community's language and never touch fake reviews or vote games.

Short answer

Managing visibility on Reddit means a brand sharing content and answering questions in relevant communities from an official account that openly carries its name, supported by promoted posts where needed. UNIT İstanbul monitors brand mentions and recommendation threads, builds a content plan that respects community rules and never uses fake accounts or vote manipulation.

Why does it matter to be where your brand is being discussed on Reddit?

Reddit is a discussion platform made up of topic communities called subreddits. From coffee brewing to accounting software, from running shoes to home renovation, almost every subject has its own community. Users ask questions such as "which one should I buy?" or "has anyone used this?" and get their answers from other people's experience.

These recommendation and comparison threads are among the places where purchase decisions are discussed most honestly. Your brand may be mentioned in them, or it may not be mentioned at all; either way, you need to know. Visibility on Reddit starts with listening to that conversation, well before any advertising.

Reddit ads are managed by the same social advertising team that runs LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube; we explain how we choose between channels on our social advertising service page. This page focuses on Reddit's own tools and on how we behave inside its communities.

What ad formats does Reddit offer?

Reddit ads are paid formats that place a brand's posts in community feeds and comment areas, marked with a "Promoted" label. Product names and availability by market change from time to time; the table below summarises the common formats. Before every campaign we check again that the format is open in your account and in the target market.

FormatWhere it appearsWhat it doesWhen we choose it
Promoted postsIn the home feed and community feeds, between organic postsShows an image, video, carousel or text post to the chosen audience; comments can stay openAs the core format of almost every Reddit campaign
Conversation placementOn the post detail page, between or above the commentsShows the brand in a relevant context at the moment someone is reading a discussionWhen we want to appear on pages where specific topics are being discussed
Q&A session promotionIn the feed, as the post for a session run by the brand or one of its expertsIncreases participation in a planned question-and-answer sessionFor a launch, a product change or explaining expertise, where the platform offers the format
Product and catalogue adsIn the feed, as posts generated from a product catalogueShows products dynamically according to each user's interestsFor e-commerce brands with a catalogue set-up, in markets the platform is gradually opening
Lead generation formsA form that opens inside the promoted postLets users leave their contact details without leaving RedditIn B2B and service businesses collecting guide downloads, trial sign-ups or quote requests

How is targeting set up for Reddit ads?

Targeting on Reddit rests less on who a person is and more on what they are interested in and which conversations they take part in. That is why we start the audience definition from a list of communities.

  • Community targeting: Reaches users in specific subreddits and similar communities. We build the list by reading how each community feels about advertising and brands.
  • Interest targeting: Provides a broader audience based on the interest categories the platform infers from user behaviour.
  • Keyword targeting: Reaches users engaging with posts and discussions where particular words appear; we filter out words with double meanings.
  • Custom audiences: Enables retargeting, lookalike audiences and exclusions using site visitors and customer lists collected with consent.
  • Brand safety settings: At the start of each campaign we exclude the community and topic types where we do not want the ad to appear.

How should an ad post be written for Reddit?

A good ad on Reddit is a clear, honest post that could read like an ordinary post in the community. Reddit users spot marketing language quickly and criticise it directly in the comments. So instead of inflated slogans, we use a question, a piece of useful information or a concrete offer.

  • We write the title as a question or a clear statement of fact that resembles the community's own titles.
  • In the text we say plainly who the brand is and why it is there; we never dress an ad up as a user comment.
  • If we decide to leave comments open, we assign someone to answer questions for the whole campaign.
  • For visuals we prefer frames that show the product in real use rather than glossy, stock-looking advertising photos.

How is a brand's organic Reddit presence managed?

An organic Reddit presence means the brand taking part in communities, outside of advertising, through an official account that openly carries its name. This account answers questions, corrects misinformation, announces product changes and responds to criticism without becoming defensive. It must be clear in every comment who the account belongs to.

  • Reading community rules: Every subreddit has its own rules on promotion, link sharing and brand participation. We read these rules before posting and, where necessary, write to the moderators to ask for permission.
  • Contribution first: The official account earns trust by giving genuinely useful answers to questions before it shares any links.
  • Q&A sessions: An expert or founder from the brand answers questions under their real identity, at a time agreed in advance with the moderators. On Reddit this format is known as an AMA ("ask me anything").
  • Engaging with criticism: We do not try to delete or bury negative comments; we set out the route to a solution openly.

Social listening: where is the brand being discussed?

Social listening is the regular monitoring of discussions that mention the brand, its competitors and category terms. On Reddit we particularly follow "recommendation", "alternative" and "has anyone tried this" threads. We report whether the brand is described accurately in these threads, which complaints keep coming up and which questions remain unanswered.

We pass the product feedback that emerges from this to the product and customer service teams. Once a complaint has been resolved, the official account can say so in the relevant thread, openly and without exaggeration. We plan organic account management together with our social media management team.

How does Reddit affect search and AI answers?

Reddit threads are among the sources that appear frequently in search engines and in the answers of AI assistants. Google can show forum and discussion content separately in its results, and AI assistants often draw on real user experiences when answering product recommendation questions. As a result, the conversation on Reddit can also influence a brand's visibility beyond Reddit.

Our approach here is not to fill these sources artificially, but to make sure accurate information is present in the threads where the brand is genuinely being discussed. Clear and correct answers from the official account gradually become part of those threads. We handle visibility in AI answers through GEO work and answer boxes through AEO.

What do we not do on Reddit?

Some of what is sold as a "Reddit comment and recommendation service" in the market means covert promotion carried out with fake accounts. We do not do this work, and we say so openly, both because of the rules and for the long-term trust in the brand.

  • Writing comments from fake accounts: Praising the brand or disparaging a competitor through accounts posing as ordinary users.
  • Buying votes or manipulating votes: Pushing posts up with artificial votes, or mass-downvoting competitors' content.
  • Paid recommendations with a hidden identity: Presenting recommendations written for money or other benefits as independent user opinions.
  • Getting around community rules: Carrying on through new accounts after a ban, spreading the same promotional message across many communities or circumventing moderator decisions.

Reddit's content policy explicitly prohibits spam, vote manipulation and ban evasion. When these behaviours are detected, accounts can be suspended, the brand's domain can become impossible to share and moderators can remove the brand from the community. In Türkiye, covert advertising is also a practice prohibited under consumer legislation.

Most importantly, Reddit users are very skilled at exposing hidden promotion. Once a fake comment campaign is uncovered, it becomes the very thing people discuss about the brand, and those threads can remain visible in search and AI answers for a long time.

How is the impact of Reddit campaigns measured?

Measurement on Reddit is set up by combining the Reddit Pixel on the site with the Conversions API, which sends events from the server. Together they capture events affected by browser restrictions more completely. However, because Reddit's contribution often happens during the research stage, we do not look at the last click alone.

During campaign periods we also track indicators such as branded search, direct traffic and the tone of brand mentions on Reddit. We compare the results with other social channels in the same table and, based on that comparison, recommend whether to grow, hold or stop the budget allocated to Reddit.

Which brands is Reddit suitable for?

Reddit gives its most meaningful results in categories where users research at length before buying, such as technology, software, gaming, personal finance, hobby products, sports equipment, and home and garden. It is a valuable channel for brands that are ready to talk openly about their product and respond to criticism.

We do not recommend Reddit as a first channel for brands whose target audience is not clearly present on Reddit, that have no team to answer comments, or that cannot speak without regulatory approval in tightly regulated fields such as health and finance. In these fields we check every post for regulatory compliance together with the brand's relevant team.

How we work

  1. Listening and fit

We examine where and how your brand, your competitors and your category are discussed on Reddit, and define Reddit's role in the channel mix.

  2. Account and measurement set-up

We prepare the official brand account, the ad account, permissions, the Reddit Pixel and Conversions API set-up, and custom audiences.

  3. Community map

We map the rules of the target communities, their stance on promotion and the moderators' expectations, and build separate lists for advertising and organic participation.

  4. Launch and participation

We put promoted posts live, monitor comments and brand mentions, and answer questions from the official account under the brand's own name.

  5. Review and decision

We report the results and community feedback, draw out notes for the product team and present a budget recommendation with its reasoning.

How does the quote process work?

It starts with a message. We prepare the rest, and no work begins until you have seen in writing what you pay for, why, and how much.

  1. Message us

Tell us briefly about your business, your goal and your website, on WhatsApp or by email.

  2. Free initial analysis

We review your search visibility, how AI answers mention you and any ad accounts you run, and prepare a one-page summary.

  3. Strategy call

We go through the summary together and agree on priorities, goals and the metrics we will track.

  4. Written proposal

We send a proposal that spells out scope, deliverables, timeline and fee. We start once you approve it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Reddit comment and recommendation service mean fake comments?
Not with us. Our service is to monitor the threads where the brand is discussed, answer questions from an official account that openly carries its name, and reach relevant communities with promoted posts. Writing comments from fake accounts, buying votes or giving paid recommendations under a hidden identity breaks Reddit's rules, can lead to account and domain bans, and damages trust in the brand once it comes to light. That is why we do not do these things.
In which languages and markets do Reddit ads work?
Reddit's user base is concentrated mainly in English-speaking markets; Turkish-language communities are smaller. So we mostly consider Reddit for brands expanding into international markets and for audiences who research in English. Because the availability of ad formats and targeting options can vary by market, we check the current situation before each campaign.
There is a negative Reddit thread about our brand. Can you delete it?
No. A thread can only be removed by the user who wrote it or, if it breaks community rules, by the moderators and the platform. What we do is examine the claims in the thread, clarify the solution with your product or service team if the problem is real, and write an open, non-defensive reply from the official account. If there is misinformation, we correct it calmly and with evidence.
Do comments from the official brand account count as advertising?
As long as the account clearly carries the brand name, users know who is speaking; this transparency is the behaviour Reddit expects. Communities do, however, set different limits on promotional content. So we adjust the official account's link and product sharing to each community's rules and, where needed, ask the moderators for permission in advance.
Does being visible on Reddit make us visible in AI answers?
Not directly. Because Reddit threads are among the sources that appear frequently in search engines and AI answers, the brand being described accurately in them can have an indirect effect. We treat AI visibility as part of GEO work, together with the site's content, entity information and other sources.
How is an AMA (question-and-answer session) organised on Reddit?
First, the brand needs a subject genuinely worth talking about and an expert who can answer questions. We choose the right community, agree the date and the rules with the moderators in advance, and make sure the expert answers under their real identity throughout the session. We take care that answers are written for each question rather than taken from ready-made scripts.
How much budget should go to Reddit ads?
We do not recommend a fixed share. For most brands Reddit starts alongside the main channels with a limited test budget. We write down the success criteria, the test period and the conditions for stopping in advance, then compare the results with other channels to decide whether the budget should grow.
Do you promise results for Reddit work?
No, we do not make that promise. Results on Reddit depend on how the community sees the brand, on the product itself, on how well the ad fits the community's language and on the platform's changing rules. What we offer is honest participation, careful targeting and open reporting that compares the results with other channels.
