Google is hiring to recommend AI content in Discover

Job listings on Google's careers site show Discover will recommend AI-generated content. Here is what publishers and brands should do now.

Short answer

Job listings on Google's careers site show that its Discover feed will recommend AI-generated content to users. Google has not given a timeline or said how much of the feed this content will fill. Sites that get Discover traffic can track how often their pages appear in these AI features in Search Console.

Listings on Google's careers site point to where the Discover feed is heading. According to Search Engine Journal, a machine-learning engineering listing says the Discover recommendation team recommends AI-generated content to match users' interests.

What do the listings actually say?

The listings cover building automated flows that generate content for surfaces such as Discover and notifications, finding topics, and checks for factuality, freshness, coherence and tone. A more senior design listing talks about turning Discover into a "proactive, hyper-personalised concierge" experience. The same listing asks for a hire who keeps human voices and sources at the centre and lists experience building value exchanges with creators and publishers as a preferred qualification.

How big is Discover?

According to another listing, Discover is one of the world's largest feed products, with more than 500 million daily active users. None of the listings gives a timeline or says how much of the feed AI content would fill. It is not clear when the roles went up, and listings can change or close, so read them as a sign of intent rather than a firm plan.

Does your site appear in Discover's AI features?

Search Console has a report that counts impressions of links to your site in Discover's generative AI features. It measures impressions only, does not break out individual features, and sites with too few impressions may not see it. Whether your site is included is set through the generative AI control for Search, which also covers AI Overviews and AI Mode.

What should publishers and brands in Turkey do?

The steps below are interpretation, not something the listings recommend:

  • Open the Discover and generative AI report in Search Console and note which pages appear in these features.
  • Track Discover traffic separately, and build email, newsletter and direct traffic so you do not depend on one surface.
  • Highlight your author pages, original data and expert views: the listing talks about keeping human voices central, which hints that original content stays distinctive.
  • Whether to stay in or opt out of generative AI features is a business decision; measure the traffic and visibility effect in your reports before deciding.

Frequently asked

Does this mean AI content has already started in Discover?
No. The listings show intent and the team's focus, not a launch date. Sites can track the effect with their own data in the Search Console report.
