Short answer
Shopify is signing eligible stores up by default to new channels that put their products inside AI chat apps. On some channels shoppers can pay without leaving the chat, and in that case the site's analytics code does not run. Merchants can switch auto-enrolment off, and should track orders in the Shopify admin.
Highlights
- While Shopify's "Allow Shopify to manage for me" setting stays on, eligible stores are enrolled in new AI channels automatically.
- On Meta, Google and Microsoft Copilot, direct checkout is on by default for eligible stores; Google Analytics and custom pixels do not fire on these payments.
- The channels charge no fees for now; Meta expects to take a small cut of transactions over time.

If your Shopify store is eligible, your products may appear in AI chat apps without you doing anything. According to an analysis published by Search Engine Journal, Shopify enrols eligible stores by default in all of these channels, which it calls agentic storefronts.
How does auto-enrolment work?
The setting sits in the Shopify admin under Sales channels > Agentic, called "Allow Shopify to manage for me", and stays on unless it is turned off. Shopify's documentation says the store is auto-enrolled in new agentic channels. On the day Meta introduced its AI agent Muse, eligible stores' products were shared with Meta through this setting. The admin also shows an "Other channels" row, switched on by default, for startups building experimental shopping agents.
How does in-chat checkout affect your measurement?
Shopify calls this direct checkout: the customer pays in a Shopify checkout inside the chat app and never visits your site. According to the author, the feature is on by default for eligible stores on Meta, Google (AI Mode and Gemini) and Microsoft Copilot. ChatGPT instead sends the customer to the store's own checkout.
The consequence is for measurement: Shopify says Google Analytics and custom pixels do not fire in Google and Copilot checkouts (only server-side tracking works), and that third-party analytics pixels do not fire in Meta's. Orders still appear in the Shopify admin. Teams that track sales only through Google Analytics or an ad dashboard may miss them.
Do the channels cost anything, and how do you switch them off?
As of September, Shopify's help pages say the ChatGPT, Google, Copilot and Meta channels charge no extra fees, only the usual payment processing fees. Mark Zuckerberg said on a podcast that for Muse the company expects over time to take a very small cut of each transaction. If "Allow Shopify to manage for me" is turned off, catalogue access, auto-enrolment of new channels and direct checkout can be managed separately; hiding one product requires marking it unlisted, which also hides it from search engines and on-site search.
What should stores in Turkey do?
The eligibility conditions in the article are US-centred: Meta requires sales to the US, Canada or Mexico, and Google and Copilot require sales to the US. Stores that sell only in Turkey therefore appear to fall outside these conditions, while Turkish brands that sell to the US should check their admin.
- Check which channels are switched on in the Agentic page and turn off any you do not want.
- Track sales not only in site analytics but also with the channel filter on Shopify orders.
- To be told when a new channel is added, consider turning auto-enrolment off and approving channels one by one.
Frequently asked
