Reddit has announced a series of changes that tighten access to its community content. TechCrunch reports that the company is ending RSS support and closing its open API, and The Verge says restrictions on the old interface are being widened.

What are the dates for RSS and the API?

Reddit says RSS has become a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. RSS support ends on 13 November. Open API access closes in March 2027; developers of approved third-party apps and bots must register by 12 January 2027, or their access will be removed after that date.

For moderators, Reddit recommends the Discord Relay Devvit app. For feeds outside a community you moderate, Reddit says there is no replacement.

Who is affected?

According to TechCrunch, the API closure will hit social-listening products, researcher tools and AI assistants. Assistants can answer questions from Reddit today; once the open API closes they will need commercial deals. The same report says Reddit's non-advertising revenue grew 24% year on year to $43 million in the second quarter, so data is now a separate revenue line.

The old interface is shrinking too. In the coming months only logged-in accounts that have used it in the last 6 months will be able to get in; moderators are exempt.

What should agencies and brands do?

The source gives no Turkey-specific detail, so what follows is interpretation. Teams that use Reddit for brand monitoring, competitor analysis or content ideas should first ask which tool relies on which access method. Automations built on RSS need to be rebuilt before 13 November. Agencies using API-based tools should ask their providers in writing whether they hold a Reddit data agreement; otherwise reporting feeds could stop in March 2027.
