At its annual Made On YouTube event, YouTube announced a series of new features for viewers, creators and live streamers. The announcements relevant to marketing centre on testing, shopping and the language barrier.
What is coming for creators?
As reported by TechCrunch, the new Ask Studio feature assesses draft videos against the channel's past content and viewer comments, suggests alternative titles and thumbnails, and explains performance using analytics data. With permission, it can also review thumbnails on older videos itself and start tests.
- Dynamic thumbnails: Creators upload several images and YouTube decides which one to show each viewer.
- Shorts edit testing: From 2027, three different edits of the same Short can be tested.
- Automatic product tagging: AI tags products shown in videos; the Amazon affiliate programme is expanding beyond the US.
- Real-time dubbing for live streams: A pilot will begin early next year.
What changes for viewers?
Viewers will be able to arrange their home page with custom feeds based on their mood and get instant recommendations with Ask YouTube. Data shared by YouTube also shows that the screen is changing: for more than half of the top 100 creators, television is the most-watched interface. Microdramas passed 6.5 billion views in the first half of 2026, with watch time up 50 per cent year on year and views on television up 90 per cent.
What should brands do?
- Test instead of guessing: Rather than trying to get the title and thumbnail "right" first time, prepare several options and leave it to the platform's testing tools.
- Produce for television: Text that is legible on a large screen and horizontal edits should be added to mobile-first planning.
- Check AI output: Automated suggestions save time, but brand voice and accuracy should still go through human review.
Frequently asked
- What is the quickest win for small brands?
- Thumbnail and title tests on existing videos. It is the shortest route to more visibility without producing new content.
