Short answer
According to Advanced Web Ranking's second-quarter report, the desktop click-through rate for top organic results on Google fell while the mobile rate rose. The previous quarter showed the opposite. A logging error in Search Console that has since been corrected makes the two periods hard to compare, so one quarter of data should not be read as a lasting trend.
Highlights
- Across the top two positions, desktop CTR fell by a combined 5.27 points and mobile CTR rose by a combined 6.59 points.
- On desktop, the top two positions have a CTR of 10.04 per cent with an AI Overview and 29.05 per cent without one.
- The Search Console impressions error lasted until 27 April 2026, so comparisons should treat it as a measurement break.

Advanced Web Ranking's (AWR) Q2 report, as covered by Search Engine Journal, compares click-through rates (CTR) for Google's top positions from April to June with January to March. This time, desktop and mobile moved in opposite directions.
How did click-through rates change in the second quarter?
Across all searches, desktop CTR for the top two positions fell by a combined 5.27 points, while mobile CTR rose by a combined 6.59 points. SEJ points out that these figures add together changes across several positions and do not show any single site's change. In the previous quarter, desktop had improved and mobile had declined.
How do AI Overviews affect clicks?
An AI Overview is the AI-generated summary Google shows at the top of some results. In the report's U.S.-only data, the combined desktop CTR for positions one and two was 29.05 per cent on pages without an AI Overview and 10.04 per cent on pages with one.
How should I read my own Search Console data?
According to Google's help page, a logging error reported impressions inaccurately, which affected CTR and average position but not click counts. The error lasted until 27 April 2026. That means all of Q1 falls within the affected range, while most of Q2 comes after the fix.
The practical takeaway for SEO teams reporting in Turkey: before reading before-and-after CTR comparisons as a change in user behaviour, mark that date as a measurement break. Report devices separately too. AWR says its Q3 report will show whether the split is lasting.
Frequently asked
- Does this data apply to every site?
- No. The figures are international averages that add up changes across several positions. Your own device-level Search Console data may differ from these averages.
